A Patriotic Weekend + Giveaway

Monday, May 29, 2017

Happy Memorial Day friends and I hope that you've all had a relaxing weekend! It's holiday's like this that I always enjoy because it's not often that we have long weekends together as a family. We pretty much spent this weekend just relaxing, bbqing, and doing a little shopping at our favorite stores! Of course, I couldn't go out without dressing proud in this patriotic look!

The lemon print top made for a fun addition and this blue pencil skirt with silver metallic detailing complimented perfectly. Aside from the holiday, I also wore this look a couple of weeks ago with my blush pink handbag and neutral accessories. It's a soft and pretty combo that's even perfect for the office. Pencil skirts are my jam and they always highlight the best features of your figure.

Accessories have been a big thing for me this past month. I've been wearing bolder jewelry, from drop earrings to this amazing wood watch by JORD. I have a post HERE, on this Frankie series women's watch, but other watches in gorgeous finishes and colors are available. I just can't get enough of the dark wood with the rose gold details! So darling!

Father's Day is just around the corner and I plan to order the hubby one too because they also have an amazing collection of men's watches to choose from. As a creative at heart, it's unique elements like wood that I really gravitate towards. It's modern, yet classic. If you don't pick one up for yourself, then it would make an amazing gift for him or her, I assure you!

JORD watches has been so kind to offer a giveaway that is still going on, so you too can have a watch for yourself! It's very simple to enter and the winner will receive a $100 E Gift Code to use towards your purchase and ALL those who enter will get a $25 credit as well. It's an amazing giveaway that I hope you'll all take part in! The giveaway closes June 4, 2017 at 11:59PM.

Madison & a Teacher's Gift

Friday, May 26, 2017

Just a few days ago, we celebrated my daughter's 7th birthday. Within the blink of an eye, Eva-Madison went from a baby in my arms to a little girl with tons of sass and personality! She's a little shy at first, but when she warms up, she loves to sing and dance, especially to her favorite movie's: Trolls, Happy Feet, and Moana. Madison is incredibly kind and loves to see a smile on your face. She's always there to comfort you with a big hug at just the right times and I love it when we rub noses just for fun. She told me one day that she wanted to be a teacher when she grows up, and I can see her doing just that. She enjoys helping others, she loves to learn and read books, and she's great with teaching others. I am so very proud of her and blessed to have her as my daughter.

For Madison's birthday, I wanted to write her a special note because she often comes home from school with sweet notes and pictures she drew for me.  Each and every one meant the world to me and I wanted her to have something special from my heart to hers. It read...

To my sweet Madison:

I will always love you more than you will ever know. I love your many hugs and cuddles together and I love your beautiful smile. You make me happy everyday with your silly laughs, your cute talents, and when you say, I love you. You are the sweetest, smartest, and most thoughtful girl I know and I wish you the happiest 7th birthday!  Mommy and Daddy love you very much and we are so proud of you. Enjoy your birthday and we hope it's very special, just like you! We love you to the moon and back!"

A birthday party is in the works and I hope to share some photos with you within the next few weeks. Aside from Madison's birthday, this has been a busy last week of school. I've been attending events daily and was making something special for Madison's 1st grade teacher. Hand making gifts for the kid's teachers have been a tradition since Preschool. This year, I decided to gift one of my infamous wreaths for her teacher to put in her home. Wreath's are a welcoming gesture for a home and liven up a space beautifully. A collection of faux blooms and greenery made up this wreath and hopefully she will get good use out of this charming gift.

There are so many things that I'm grateful for, my two beautiful and loving children who ended the school year with amazing grades, and I'm thankful for the teachers that helped make their goals a reality. There's nothing more fulfilling in my life than being a mother to my gems: Eva-Madison and Austin-Tyler. I hope you all have a great Memorial Day holiday and thanks for reading along!

Makeup Tips for Youthful Looking Skin

Friday, May 19, 2017

Ever since the beginning of the year, I wanted to switch things up and go back to wearing more natural looking makeup. I was in a pretty expensive phase for a good 2-3 years, purchasing makeup products left and right, thinking it was the answer to youthfulness. Plus, makeup was and still is something I really enjoy doing in the morning as my form of meditation. Anyone else feel the same? Is makeup, therapy for you?  Makeup is just a way for me to relax before the chaos of daily life and the end result is to hopefully feel confident and beautiful.

The only problem was, I was purchasing the wrong makeup for my skin. My foundation was full coverage when I didn't need it and I was wearing too many products when it really wasn't necessary. I decided to focus more on skincare and took it back to basics with wanting a more natural and healthy radiant look. I'm in my 30's and once you reach this age bracket, it's all about less is more. And it's so true! Looking back at some of my previous photos, I look more youthful now and it's because of a few simple changes I incorporated into my makeup routine.

Here are some helpful tips to achieve a natural makeup look that will make you look flawless and beautiful!

1.  Use a foundation with a more natural finish and don't pile it on. My favorite foundation at the moment is Giorgio Armani's Luminous Silk Foundation in 5.75. I've always purchased natural finish foundations because they are more second skin like and they're the perfect "in between" option (nothing too dull & matte and nothing too luminous that can accentuate texture). I have linked below a few other foundations that I love with medium coverage.

2. When you're in your 30's, fine lines and dryness seem to be more of an issue and the key to creating a flawless complexion is to use less foundation and spot conceal. If there's anything you gain from this post, I hope it's this! You really only need 1 pump of foundation; anything more will eventually look cakey. With my current foundation, I apply 1 pump of luminous silk foundation to my face, bringing it down to my neck, using my beauty sponge from Eco Tools (the best sponge). As a rule of thumb, foundation is really meant to even out your skin tone. From there, I move onto spot concealing.

For spot concealing, use a small brush, such as a concealer or eyeliner brush, to address blemishes and texture you wish to get rid of. My current holy grail concealer is the NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer in Custard.  A review of this product can be found HERE.  I adore this concealer more than you know and it covers everything I need without looking drying. This is truly a god send for those that have dryer or more mature skin. It's best applied with a brush and I also like patting it into the skin using my ring finger. Tip: Since it has a soft matte finish, I like to  apply a little where I tend to get oily throughout the day.  For me, it's down the center of my face (between my eyebrows, tip of my nose, and my chin.  This concealer controls the oil very well, where I only need to powder once in my long 10-11 hour day.

3. Apply your eyeshadow, blush, and highlighter with a light hand. Apply your bronzer as usual, whether it's to contour or warm up your skin. I like to be more light handed with everything else. Pinky nude blushes and less "in your face" highlighters, like the Illuminating Duo by Tom Ford, are what work best for everyday. You can definitely amp up the look for nights out, special occasions or when you're feeling daring. But for everyday, don't feel like to have to pack on the highlighter. Especially if you have texture or blemishes. Applying more product will bring more attention to these areas. Feel free to check out the highlighter options below that are slightly more subtle, but look gorgeous on the skin.

I hope these three tips helped you with creating a more natural and youthful look. All the products I've linked below I own personally and/or have tried myself. I highly recommend them all! Have a wonderful rest of your week and chat with you again soon!

As a creative, event stylist, and blogger, my mind is constantly searching for new ways to be creative and inspired. For some, it begins with looking through magazines or scrolling through online resources, such as Pinterest. As for myself, inspiration actually begins with my wardrobe. Have you ever heard of the saying, you are what you wear? Personally, that applies to me and it's my wardrobe that keeps me on track with my designs, whether it's for my home, making decor or getting inspired for a new blog post.

If you've been following me along, I really enjoy the use of organic and natural elements, especially wood. It's the foundation for a beautiful backdrop and from there I like to add color, patterns, and textures to complete the look. Lately, I've been wanting to add more black and white decor pieces to my blush infused home. To help keep me focused on my design while shopping, I decided to pick an outfit that catered to the colors I was going for. This way, during my search for the perfect pieces to add, I have an outfit to use as reference for the design plan I want to incorporate. You should give it a try sometime. Use your outfit as a way of keeping you inspired and creative through your projects.

One item that has been a lovely addition to my wardrobe is my JORD wood watch for it's modern and unique style. My FRANKIE Series women's watch is a gorgeous dark sandalwood with a smoke colored face. The quality is truly amazing, and it's very comfortable to wear because of it's smooth finish. Even with a larger face style, this watch is very lightweight for those that wear minimal accessories. One of my favorite features are the rose gold details! It shines through in the light and it's just so pretty and girly, which I love! There are many styles and face colors to choose from HERE for women's watches, as well as men's watches available on their website, HERE. I have been wanting to get my husband a watch for Father's Day coming up in a few weeks and he would really appreciate a unique watch such as this! Hmm, couples watches for the win!

Like jewelry, watches are one of those pieces that complete your look and they're pretty & inspiring to look at throughout the day. Not only that, but my wood watch has been a reliable way of keeping me on track throughout the day. As a mom, I am constantly on a time schedule and it's nice to have my watch to refer to, instead of trying to find my phone in my large tote bag. How many moms can relate with me on that?  So, I'm sure you can understand how this watch has really added value to my daily lifestyle, both personally and with work. You can also read more about JORD watches and their philosophy behind wearing time well on their website

Now, here's the best part! JORD has been kind enough to offer a giveaway to all my wonderful readers, so you can have an amazing watch for yourself to enjoy or gift to someone special! Simply fill out the entry form online HERE and you're set to go! The winner will receive a $100 gift code to use towards any wood watch of their choice and all those who enter will receive a $25 gift code to use towards any of the women's and men's wood watches that they offer. The giveaway will close June 4, 2017 at 11:59PM. Also, note that your code will be effective until August 31, 2017.

Enjoy your day and good luck friends!

Luxury Wooden Watch

Friday, May 12, 2017

One thing I've been playing with this past month has been this beautiful combo of pink and blue. Always a fan of soft pinks and neutrals, blue mainly consisted of denim and oxford button downs in my closet. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see a softer and sophisticated side of blue popup in playful silhouettes and classic stripes. Who knew I would love this combo so much!

I've been eager to take part in the ruffle trend because it's gorgeous and very romantic. I just had to find the right piece that would work well with my style, nothing too over the top, but just enough. I purchased this striped ruffle dress at Nordstrom Rack and I was so glad I did! The ruffle detail is the loveliest and this dress is incredibly comfortable to wear, especially across my shoulders. Some might fuss with adjusting tops or dresses like this, but I can assure you that I wore this dress all day with no worries. The best part is that it has pockets! Now, who doesn't love a dress with pockets?! You can count that I'll be wearing this often during the Summer for parties and vacationing.  It is currently available in store, but I've also linked many other similar dresses below.

The quality of Eliza J. Dresses are amazing, flattering, and have beautiful patterns. I look forward to purchasing this fit & flare midi striped dress next. I'm certain I will love it just as much! For anyone attending special events or weddings, this is definitely a dress line to consider at Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and chat with you again soon!

Leaf Heart Wreath DIY

Monday, May 8, 2017

As we're trying to find the perfect gift for Mother's Day, I decided to post a long awaited tutorial of a fresh leaf wreath that I featured on Instagram last month. It was a simple DIY that I enjoyed putting together and it would make the loveliest gift to a mother, grandmother, aunt or gardening aficionado. There's nothing more welcoming and heart-felt than a handmade wreath. It's something they can display in their home and it's a gift I think anyone would absolutely love! If you'd like to see how I made this pretty wreath, please keep reading to get all the details.

These are the items that you will need to make your wreath, which most can be found at your craft store:

>> 5 Paper Wrapped Stem Wire - 18 gauge
>> Brown or Green Floral Tape
>> Thin Floral Wire
>> Small Pliers
>> Scissors
>> 1 Large Bunch of Filler Flowers (Greenery or Flowers of your Choice - purchased from your local grocery store)
>> Decorative Ribbon

On a flat surface, take 4 paper wrapped stemmed wire and lay them down to form a heart. 2 as half circles to form the top of the heart and 2 to form each side of the heart, as seen below.

Once everything is in place, take your pliers and twist the ends together to secure the top center of the heart, as well as the bottom. Use floral tape to connect and fuse the sides of the heart together.

Onward to the flowers. Pre-cut all the greenery or flowers, removing any long stems, and position them along the heart. Feel free to move flowers around and make adjustments until you're happy with the look.

Starting from the bottom, add your first piece of greenery to the wreath and secure it to the paper wrapped stem using floral wire. Twist the floral wire until the greenery is snug in place. You will repeat this on either side of the wreath as you move up, adjusting and carefully bending the greenery as needed to create your shape. For this particular wreath, I used a total of 8 greenery stems.

You can also use wildflowers, lavender bunches, wax flowers and eucalyptus branches. as other great options to make your wreath with.  For something more long lasting, a faux flower wreath is just as lovely!

Once you've covered the entire wreath, carefully turn the wreath over to the back to add more support to the top of the heart. To maintain the curved shape at the top, with the weight of the flowers/greenery, take one additional wrapped stemmed wire and form it into a widened letter "M" (as shown in the photos below).

When you add your decorative ribbon on both sides of the heart, ensure that the ribbon is knotted tightly around both the wreath and the additional shaped wire.  This is a simple way to secure the curved shape of the heart.

Congratulations, you now you have yourself an elegant wreath for gifting! I have also made this for special events and weddings that I style, as well as for my own home, where it's beautifully displayed in my dining room. I hope you give this a try, they're sure to love it!

Have a lovely week friends and stay tuned for a special Mother's Day edition post coming very soon! xo
