BLACK FRIDAY + HOLIDAY SALES

Friday, November 24, 2017

Happy day after Thanksgiving friends! With Thanksgiving behind us and shopping on the mind, I thought I'd share with you some things that are currently in my shopping cart for this weekend's sales.

1.  I have to admit that after having kids, jeans have not been my favorite thing to wear.  I've tried jeans at all price points (budget friendly and luxury), but none of them seemed comfortable enough to wear in the mid-region and they just felt too restraining. That was until I ran into a pair of 10" high rise-skinny jeans from Madewell. They truly have changed the game for me, with the comfortable feel and look they provide. They cinch you in, in all the right spots and if there is one thing that's a must buy this weekend, they are another pair of these jeans. They're 25% off using the code DONTSTRESS, and be sure to size down one jean size.  For reference, I'm 5'5 and fit size 28.

2. There's nothing easier to wear than a denim on denim look. This ruffled top from Madewell is absolutely darling and works with a cute pair of blue or black denim or a black pencil skirt. It's a playful take on a wardrobe basic, so don't forget to pick up this pretty using the Madewell coupon code above.

3. I've very much been into flats and converse this Fall season because they're just effortless and can be taken anywhere and everywhere. These cute flats from Nordstrom are currently on sale and I think the only decision to make here are whether you want them in wine, black or both!

4. Colder weather is upon us and warm sweater jackets are an essential.  If you find the right one, it's not only cozy and soft, but lightweight and functional for those busy errand days and times at the gym. I love the pocket and hoodie features of this Loft sweater and since it comes in olive green, it's a must have pick, especially at 50% off with coupon code FRIYAY.

5. The plaid print and neutral color palette of this top is what first struck my interest. It has this sort of vintage vibe to it, which was why I picked this up last week. I love how the fabric is so soft and light on my skin. It's perfect as a layering piece for winter and looks great with all your winter accessories (beanies, scarves, you name it)! It's also 50% off using coupon code FRIYAY, so pick it up before all the sizes run out!

6.  It comes as no surprise that I am by far a Parka Jacket gal. They work so perfectly with all your layered looks and they're easy to carry around where ever you go. It's a much better option than hauling an over-sized coat all the time, which is why I wear these nearly all year round.  This black parka is sure to compliment all your everyday wear and this is one I highly recommend from Target.  They come in 5 colors, so pick the color of your choice. For a great value, be sure to spend $50 to get a 20% email coupon from Target.

Of course, I have a few furniture pieces that I plan to hunt for this weekend, which includes a leather sofa, coffee table, and dining table. We've had our Pottery Barn dining table for years now and it's sustained quite a beating over the years. So, although I could technically refurbish it, I'm looking for a change, particularly for something like this farmhouse table I've been eyeing, here.

If there are any sales or deals you want to share with everyone, going on this weekend, feel free to mention them in the comments below. Happy shopping everyone!

IN GOOD COMPANY {THANKSGIVING EDITION}

Monday, November 13, 2017

Thanksgiving is upon us and it's surprising that we are less than 2 weeks away from the festivities! This year we'll be hosting Thanksgiving twice next week, which I'm very excited about! We'll be having a small gathering with my youngest sister right before she heads back home to the West Coast and then another on Thanksgiving Day for family here in Houston. I essentially get to set up two parties for the holiday, which makes Thanksgiving prep all the more merrier!

For company on Thanksgiving day, I knew I wanted to go with a cozy, yet elegant feel. Plaids, leather, and wood made the list for my inspiration board, along with romantic finds to balance the overall look. The colorful leaves from the trees, along with the twinkling lights we have strung on our oak trees, made it a no brainer that an outdoor backyard gathering would serve as the perfect Thanksgiving backdrop.

So, if you're creating a celebration for Friendsgiving or for the family, this is a look that will set the tone for wonderful memories, laughter, and cheer with your loved ones. Enjoy!

Welcome family and friends to your Thanksgiving gathering with a darling sign, like this vintage inspired felt letter board.

Adding a simple and inexpensive chandelier can really elevate the look of your tablescape. I purchased this light fixture from Ikea a few months ago (similar HERE) for under $20, which was strung onto our Pecan Tree, using a white cotton rope.

Use marble cake stands and platters to highlights hor d' oeuvres and Thanksgiving goodies!

Romantic finds were added throughout, with included vintage pieces and soft colored flowers of  pink and peach roses, white lisianthus, seeded eucalyptus, and pumpkin toned daisies.

I don't mind breaking the rules when it adds interest to a display. For this plate setting of six, I adorned half of the patterned napkins with gold leaf napkin rings and the other half into a simple pocket fold, before pairing them with crisp white plates. I alternated between two similar place settings, for a beautiful and thoughtful look. To see more napkin folding ideas, check out this link HERE.

All the decor came to life, thanks to our handmade 8-foot cedar wood table and these gorgeous cozy pillows. After visiting a nearby shop that sold fire wood, we were able to score a few pecan wood pieces that served as the legs of the table. They couldn't have been a cuter addition!

The pillows used for comfy seating were a combination of pillow covers from IKEA that I added embellishments to and a couple of new pillows from Sew +Cloth.  I absolutely adore the buffalo check and faux leather pillows from Sew + Cloth so much, that I now have them displayed in our living room. They are truly well-made with high quality fabric and I highly recommend this Etsy shop.

Don't be afraid to experiment with different patterns as I did here. Choose decor that fits within your color palette and has similar patterns. For example: Plaid + Stripes. You can truly create a beautiful place for gathering with these style tips and I hope this inspires you to host this year's Thanksgiving holiday! I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

{Personalized Coffee Cups} Perfect for Camping Adventures + Winter Parties

Wednesday, November 8, 2017

Welcome to November friends! This past weekend, the family headed out to Coldspring, Texas for an annual Cub Scout Camping Trip with my son's pack. It had been many years since I last went camping and Wolf Creek Park ended up being a pleasant experience for all of us. We graciously absorbed the fresh pine air and the dancing autumn leaves all around. Our tent rested lakeside with a panoramic view of Lake Livingston, which was so beautiful and serene. The kids loved that they were steps away from the water, happily grabbing their fishing rods at every opportunity to enjoy this pass time with their friends. It was truly a picturesque scene. Once the night ended with chanting songs and skits from the boys, the bond fire settled to reveal a beautifully lit sky from the tangerine full moon. We left camp with wonderful memories and it's a campsite we look forward to visiting again.

When creating the checklist of things to bring, I wanted to make something cute & special to house warm beverages, such as coffee and hot chocolate in the morning. For one of Austin's birthday parties, we set up an outside coffee/hot chocolate bar with personalized to-go cups for our guests. It was such a crowd pleaser, that I thought incorporating the same concept here would be perfect, using a "bear camp" theme for the coffee cup sleeves.

It was such an easy DIY that ended up being super cute, so I had to share it with you all! It's a fun accessory for camping adventures and parties, and it's a great way for guests to feel special with personalized goodies you took the time to make. Keep reading to get all the details ...

>> MATERIALS <<
Disposable Coffee Cups with Black or White Lids (here)
Kraft Coffee Cup Sleeves (here)
Lowercase Small Rubber Stamp Kit (here , herehere)
Black Ink Pad (here)

All the materials I purchased were from Hobby Lobby, but I linked similar versions above.

To start, use the stamps to carefully imprint any of these bear themed names onto the coffee cup sleeves: papa bear, mama bear, brother bear, sister bear, and so on. Since I had a few sleeves left, I stamped my son's den name (Webelos), so we could proudly represent their den. For a simple + clean look, chose a lowercase stamp kit in a typewriter font. We all enjoyed this special accent at the camp out, including his other cub scout friends who joined us for hot chocolate in the morning.

I hope you enjoyed this DIY that makes sipping coffee and hot chocolate all the more merrier!  Until next time ...

A VINTAGE ROMANTIC OFFICE NOOK

Monday, October 30, 2017

The weather was chilly this weekend and it was the perfect time to lounge around the house in my cozy polka dot socks and over-sized sweater. It's really this time of the year that I become inspired by vintage + rustic elements, as well as modern mountain homes, for the beautiful wood tones and cabin like feels.

With an original color palette of romantic pinks and neutrals around the house, I decided to bring in more rich wood tones and vintage accessories to create a happy mix of both feminine and masculine styles. The result... a warm and inviting space for the Fall and Winter months.

Our living room seems to be the hub for many of our family gatherings and since the future room for our home office is currently being used for storage, I thought, why not set-up a multi-functional area in the living room, which is the primary place where we gather as a family.

It's use: an office nook, a place for the kids to do their nightly homework, and a secondary spot for eating when we have family and friends over for dinner.

Local Market Wood Boxes - TJ Maxx

Bring in a few touches of lived in vintage items, as I did in the vase and gold frames, which add warmth and soul to this space.

I love how simply elegant and functional this office nook turned out to be. Everything was thoughtfully styled, from the rustic and textured elements to the romantic hues in the flowers, vintage books, and wool pillow. In the details, a farmhouse basket worked perfectly as catch-all for mail and keys, while wooden bins served well as a place to store paperwork and tidbits. Overall, this space came together nicely and I couldn't be happier with the result!
