November 2016 Favorites {Beauty + Fashion}

Wednesday, November 30, 2016

November oh November, what a month you have been, with celebrating my birthday on the 4th and ending with a cheerful Thanksgiving. November has also been a time of reflection for me, as I use my birthday as an annual review of things I need to improve on in all aspects of my life. I think it's important to evaluate yourself from time to time, so you can continue to grow and evolve into a better & happier version of yourself. With new goals in mind, I have switched up my makeup regimen to improve my changing skin. I'm still going for a natural look, but incorporated more creamy products that I'm excited to share. The favorites for this month are beauty related (YAY), with a few other favorite's I've been loving this past month. I hope you give them a try and here they are:

MAC Liptensity Lipsticks: These lipsticks are a new love and they've been my go to for everyday. The Liptensity lipsticks are highly pigmented, giving you full color coverage upon first application. They provide a beautiful creamy gloss finish with comfortable wear and the color doesn't budge. For your lips but better, Doe is the perfect nude that makes your lips look full and lush. Charlotte Tilbury's Iconic Nude Lipliner or Mac's Lip Pencil in Stripdown make an amazing lip combo. I also picked up Smoked Almond, which is a warm medium nude. It's a very Fall & Wintery color, perfect for this time of the year. To see a more in depth review with swatches of the other lip shades, visit the Beauty Look Book here

Marc Jacobs Air Blush Soft Glow Duo: I've always been a blush girl and when I laid eyes on this gem, I knew I had to have it! I picked up the shade Kink & Kisses, which is a light pink/rose duo. What I love most about blush duo's is that you can control the intensity of the color, making it versatile to wear for any occasion. I like to apply this with a dense blush brush by swirling it in the pan, before patting it onto the apples of my cheeks. I've slowly been incorporating more of Marc Jacob's makeup line into my collection and this blush is among my favorites.

Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick: With cooler weather, comes drier skin days. I've been using nothing but hydrating products for the entire month of November and the Tom Ford stick foundation has helped my skin look flawless this month. I prefer cream foundations for it's natural finish and I really enjoy the emollient texture and lightweight feel it leaves on the skin. You can achieve sheer to full coverage with either a damp beauty blender or TF's foundation brush. Sable is my exact shade (medium with yellow undertones) and you get a whopping 15 grams of product. I will say... I am currently testing out Hourglass's Vanishing Foundation Stick and I'm finding that it is comparable to the TF foundation stick. TF is a bit more natural on the skin, but for a budget friendly option, the Hourglass stick is also worth checking out.

Diorshow Maximizer 3D Plumping Lash Primer: I'm not an expert at wearing false lashes, but I wanted my lashes to look more voluminous and full. When I tried this lash primer by Dior, I was blown away! It has really helped my lashes to look fuller and longer, and it has a serum infused in the formula that promotes thicker and curled lashes. Paired with Benefit's "They're Real" Mascara, your lashes will look absolutely amazing. I can not recommend this enough!

Merona Utility Jacket from Target: Every year, I have two things on my agenda: get a stylish & durable jacket and a cute pair of boots. I'm so glad I found the perfect jacket and it has gone everywhere with me! From sporting events, to the park and more, this utility jacket from Target is the best! It comes in two colors, Moss Green and Brown (which I have both) and I love the drawstring detail that cinches you in at the waist.  I can see myself wearing this year after year and I know you'll love it too!

Madewell Bandana's: These bandana's were just too cute to pass up! I picked up two colors (indigo and cabaret) and they amp up your look with the simplest of cotton tees and dresses. They're somewhat of a choker alternative and they even look lovely tied onto a tote bag. To see this in action with the Merona Utility Jacket, click here

H&M Fine-Knit Turtleneck in Beige Melange: Lightweight turtlenecks have been a hit this month because they're great layered under button down's and dresses. I've been rotating between a few turtlenecks, but this one from H&M has been my very favorite!  Mainly for it's amazing color in Beige Melange, it works so lovely as a neutral and the earthy golden beige tone of this top reminds me of Fall. It does come in 3 colors and it's a great basic to have moving into Winter.

Threshold Chenille Throw from Target: Oh my goodness! This chenille throw is the comfiest blanket you will find for under $20. It's oh so plush, making it my favorite thing to cuddle up to, aside from my kiddos. I have taken this blanket from the sofa to my bedroom and back again. I can't seem to go without it and because of that, I'm going to purchase more! This soft throw makes a fantastic holiday gift, which is why I have it on my 2016 Holiday Gift Guide List!

Hart of Dixie on Netflix: Ok, so this has nothing to do with beauty or fashion, but I had to share this. I have watched this series a million and one times, but I've been watching it again this month and that's Hart of Dixie! It's a show that was once on the WB and it's witty, warm hearted, with the humorous bit of drama. I really enjoy watching it when I'm in a relaxing mood or when I'm working on handmade orders. The storyline revolves around a New York doctor named Zoey Hart who moves to Bluebell, Alabama to reconnect with her Father, whom she never knew. It turns out that he passed away and left the business to her. The episodes take you through her journey of trying to fit in with southern traditions. It's my favorite series of all time and I encourage you to check it out.

What things have you been loving this past month? Please do share and I wish everyone a wonderful December month. Chat again soon!

Modern Lace-Up Top {A Madewell Feature}

Wednesday, November 23, 2016

Lace-up tops have been on the rage, from blouses to knit sweaters and I don't see them going anywhere, anytime soon! The criss-cross detail adds a modern sophisticated appeal to a classic look, making it hard to pass up.

This silk blouse from Madewell was the perfect score, initially for the color and for it's versatility. It looks amazing with all your outerwear pieces - blazers, cardigans, and jackets. I wore the lacing loosely, but you can easily tighten and adjust where needed to get the look you love.

Also, earthy green shades are incredibly flattering on all skin tones and you'll find that this shade goes with all your neutrals. Here, I paired this blouse in camo green with a ribbed knit skirt and camel booties because I love the added texture and an urban style. Another amazing combo that works beautifully with an earthy green is: blush pink. They're truly a match made in heaven! A green/blush combo incorporates an ethereal vibe to your outfit and softens your look in a very flattering way. You can kind of see this merriment of colors, with this blush toned farmhouse used in the photo shoot.

Camo, Army, Moss Green (all one and the same), is a shade I highly recommend in your color palette. You'll find that your closet is instantly vamped up with just this one color.

Top 5 Sneaker Picks

Tuesday, November 22, 2016

Happy Thanksgiving week everyone and what an exciting week it is! Aside from devouring on Thanksgiving turkey with all the fixin's this Thursday, sales from every street corner will be launching (if they haven't already). Black Friday to me is like the beginning of a Marathon leading to Christmas. Once the store's open, it's "ready, set, go" and I'm off to shop for all my friends and family, while picking up a few things for myself. Hey, why not!

With all the running around and traveling many of us will be doing in the next few weeks, a good pair of kicks will be absolutely essential! There's so much amazing detail in today's sneakers, that they've never looked more chic. These are my top 5 picks for sneakers that are absolutely worth the buy:

Adidas Originals Gazelle Sneaker: I've been sooo obsessed with these Gazelle sneakers because they remind me of a pretty pair of flats. They have a low profile sole and are incredibly comfortable to wear. I adore the suede leather combo and they're available in a variety of neutral colors. I normally wear a size 8 across the board, but had to size down to a 7. I recommend trying them on in store or sizing down one full size. I did try these on prior to purchasing my color online in Ivory.

Kenneth Cole New York Kip Sneaker in White Gold: These are your basic white sneakers that go with everything and anything. They're a crisp clean white shoe, but have a pop of metallic striped detail on the back. Metallic shoes have been trending this season and this is the perfect sneaker to sport! They're at an affordable price point and you won't regret this purchase, I assure you! I have these with the white gold stripes and they're available in store at Nordstrom Rack and online.

Nike Juvenate Sneaker: For something a little sportier or great for traveling, these Nike's are perfect! The geometric mesh detail dresses up this sneaker in a subtle way and they pair well with leggings or a fitted midi dress. Best of all, they're currently 20% off at Nordstrom. Better get your hands on these asap!

Adidas Stan Smith Originals:  These are another great all white shoe option with a pop of color. I love how clean these look with all things denim - a denim dress, boyfriend jeans with a button down collared shirt, a denim name it, this shoe goes with it. They're classic and comfortable, making them a necessity in everyone's shoe collection. I did size down one full shoe size in these as well.

Steve Madden Ecentrcq Sneaker: For days where you just don't want to hassle with laces, slip-on's are ready and waiting for you. I've had a pair of these for a couple of years now in black and they're still holding up well! These are the shoes you can easily throw in your tote for those times where you want to switch out of your heels or boots. They're an easy shoe to wear and the quilting is an added bonus.

Stay tuned on the blog this week, as I'll be posting a fun gift guide filled with pretties to check out while you're doing your holiday shopping this year. Have a beautiful day and chat soon!

Velvet Blooms for the Holidays

Friday, November 18, 2016

More than ever, the velvet trend has been popping up everywhere we turn! From tops to dresses to shoes, you can pretty much get anything in velvet and it doesn't end at fashion. When you think of velvet, you can imagine fabrics that are soft and romantic, which are reminiscent of the Fall season. I'll be hosting Thanksgiving this year and I wanted to bring in Fall tones, with hints of Thanksgiving decor. With two holidays back to back, finding pieces that serve double duty are not only budget friendly, but can be displayed for much longer in your space.

With this look, I wanted to incorporate soft blush and lilac tones with soft greens. These colors don't necessarily scream Thanksgiving, but they would definitely work hand and hand with warm pumpkin shades.

For this velvet bouquet, I chose to use 3 velvet leaf florals, 2 in sage green and 1 in blush lilac.  To keep with this color palette, I picked up a couple of other faux florals from Hobby Lobby and Joann Fabric and Crafts. You can also visit your local Michael's Craft Store or Afloral online for other amazing flower options. Take your time selecting the right blooms by observing the detail of the petals, the leaves, and the material they're made of.  You want your faux blooms as high quality as possible - the more detail they have, the better.

For an added touch of glam, I spray painted fresh baby's breath using a floral friendly metallic spray paint in Antique Gold.

Style Tip: Before cutting the floral stems, try playing around with varying heights by bending the stems until you find the desired height of your bouquet.  Once everything is to your liking, you can use your floral cutters to carefully snip the ends.

Mixing faux and fresh blooms together infuses life into the bouquet and gives the appearance that it's actually real.

A dainty owl Christmas ornament adds charm and character to this small stack of vintage books.

Just remember that decorating for the holidays doesn't have to always be filled with traditional colors. The key is finding a happy balance with your favorite colors in shades that compliment the festive colors of that holiday.

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday with many blessings!  Til next time.....xoxo

The dainty flower detail in shades of cranberry, pink, and yellow make this picture perfect for Fall + Winter alike! Style Tips for Wearing Stripes

Tuesday, November 1, 2016

Stripes are one of those patterns that we all know and love, but needless to say, it can be a little tricky to wear because all stripes aren't created equal. Keep reading below to see my 5 tips for styling striped tops the right way!

>> Detail in Back <<

1. Thin stripes are your friend! Choose tops with thin stripes, as they're more subtle and easy on the eye. Bolder stripes can look widening at times and can take away from your best features. As I like to say... don't let the stripes wear you! Every piece of your outfit should work seamlessly together to create one effortless look.

2. Use striped tops as a layering piece. I can not tell you enough that stripes are absolutely amazing for layering! They are perfection under a cardigan, blazer or jacket. They add more dimension to your look and really elevate the whole outfit all together.  You can take the most basic of striped tops and wear it under a blazer for a look that's polished and professional. In my opinion, layering is really a stripes best quality.

3. Look for unique details! This striped lantern sleeve top from the Loft (shown above) is all too pretty, with it's romantic lantern sleeves. The ruffling mid-way at the sleeves makes it stand out from other tops that I own and I'm all about a top with character! Unique details break up the pattern in a strategic way, so the print doesn't look too flat and non-dimensional. Here are some blouse options worth checking out, all with beautiful tailoring: Zara Striped BlouseAnthropologie Striped TopMadewell's Peplum Striped Top, and H&M's Front Lace Top.

4.  Opt for pops of striped detail. This is a great option if layering is too much for you.  On those "busy mom" days where I'm running around from one activity to the next, I'm not really looking for layering pieces. I want something comfortable and easy to wear, without compromising style. The Jespa Striped Tee from Anthropologie is the perfect example where stripes are used to highlight a top. It has striping in the front and solid denim in the back, which is fun and playful, where you don't have to commit to an all striped look. It's a no brainer in my book and I may just pick this one up very soon for myself!
5. When in doubt, go vertical. Vertical stripes are very slimming and lengthening to your body, which is always a plus. It looks classic and timeless on a button down shirt - complimenting the most casual to the most dressed up of looks.

I hope these tips were helpful, as I know stripes are anywhere and everywhere we turn.  Pattern brings life to our outfits and stripes are a classic print that will never go out of style. Find what works best for you and use it to compliment your outfit in the best of ways. Happy November y'all and I hope you have a fantastic week! xx
